CHAPTER 7: THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SPIRITUAL ESSENCE OF GOD THE FATHER AND IS ALSO FULLY PRESENT IN THE SON, JESUS CHRIST. IT IS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT GOD AND CHRIST ARE UNITED AS HAVING ONE WILL, THE WILL OF THE FATHER. IT IS THROUGH THE AGENCY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT WE TOO ARE MADE PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE WITH GOD AND CHRIST. THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS MANY ATTRIBUTES AND POWERS. IN THIS CHAPTER WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT THE WAYS AND MEANS THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT USES TO FULFILL THE PURPOSES OF GOD. THOSE WHO DESIRE TO WORSHIP GOD MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH.

John 4:23-24 NIV Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THERE IS ONLY ONE HOLY SPIRIT.

1 Corinthians 12:13 NIV For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Ephesians 4:4 NIV There is one body and one Spirit-- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-- Ephesians 2:18 NIV For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ETERNAL.

Hebrews 9:14 NIV How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD CAN INHABIT A MAN IN DIFFERENT MEASURES OF FULLNESS, AS IN THE CASE OF ELISHA.

2 Kings 2:9-11 & 15 NIV When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?" "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied. You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours--otherwise not." As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, "The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha." And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

THE NAMES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS CALLED "THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST AND THE SPIRIT OF JESUS CHRIST. IN OTHER PLACES HE IS ALSO CALLED THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, AND MANY OTHER NAMES.

Philippians 1:19 NIV for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.

1 Peter 1:11 NIV trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD IS ALSO CALLED THE LAMP OF THE LORD. THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT THE TRUE NATURE AND THOUGHTS OF A MAN ARE MADE KNOWN TO GOD. THE SPIRIT SEARCHES OUT MANS INMOST BEING.

Proverbs 20:27 NIV The lamp of the LORD searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALSO CALLED THE COUNSELOR, AND IT BOTH TEACHES AND REMINDS THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH, WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN TAUGHT. THE HOLY SPIRIT TESTIFIES ABOUT CHRIST AND GUIDES A PERSON INTO ALL TRUTH. THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES NOT SPEAK ON HIS OWN, BUT ONLY SPEAKS WHAT HE HEARS.

John 14:26 NIV But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 15:26 NIV "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.

John 16:13 & 15 NIV But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

THE CREATING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE SPIRIT OF GOD WAS PRESENT DURING THE CREATION. THE SPIRIT OF GOD IS ALSO CALLED THE BREATH OF THE ALMIGHTY, AND GIVES LIFE.

Genesis 1:2 NIV Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Job 33:4 NIV The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERED JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT IT WAS PROPHESIED THAT THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD WOULD REST UPON THE MESSIAH WHEN HE ARRIVED.

Isaiah 11:2 NIV The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD-- Isaiah 42:1 NIV "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations.

Isaiah 61:1 NIV The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

WHEN JESUS WAS IN THE FLESH, HE WAS GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF HIS MINISTRY.

Matthew 4:1 NIV Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.

Luke 4:1 NIV Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, Luke 4:14 NIV Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

Luke 4:18 NIV "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,

TO CHRIST, GOD GAVE THE SPIRIT WITHOUT LIMIT.

John 3:34 NIV For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

Acts 10:38 NIV how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Colossians 1:19 NIV For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,

Colossians 2:9 NIV For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

GOD, THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT RAISES THE DEAD

JESUS CHRIST, THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF HOLINESS WAS DECLARED TO BE THE SON OF GOD.

Romans 1:4 NIV and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

IF THE SPIRIT OF GOD, WHO IS THE ONE WHO RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD, IS LIVING IN A PERSON THEN GOD WILL ALSO RAISE THAT PERSON FROM THE DEAD AND GIVE HIM ETERNAL LIFE.

Romans 8:11 & 13 NIV And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,

1 Peter 3:18 NIV For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

THE SAVING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

IT IS THROUGH THE AGENCY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT MEN ARE CALLED TO REPENTANCE. THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY WITH OUR MINDS AND CAUSE US TO THINK ABOUT THE THINGS OF GOD.

WE ARE SAVED, SEALED AND SANCTIFIED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

A PERSON CAN ONLY BE SAVED BY THE CALL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1 Thessalonians 4:8 NIV Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:3 NIV Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

IN ORDER TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD, A PERSON MUST BE BORN OF WATER, WHICH IS HUMAN BIRTH, AND BORN OF THE SPIRIT.

John 3:5-6 & 8 NIV Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

John 6:63 NIV The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

WHEN THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD COMES UPON A MAN HE IS CHANGED INTO A DIFFERENT PERSON.

1 Samuel 10:6 NIV The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

WE ARE WASHED INTO GODS GRACE BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

1 Corinthians 6:11 NIV But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Titus 3:5 NIV he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS BOTH A SIGN AND A SEAL THAT GOD HAS ACCEPTED A PERSON AS A BELIEVER IN HIM. THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN OUR HEARTS.

Acts 15:8 NIV God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.

2 Corinthians 5:5 NIV Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Ephesians 1:13 NIV And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

1 John 3:24 NIV Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

1 John 4:13 NIV We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 3:3 NIV You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Galatians 4:6 NIV Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father."

CHRIST TOLD THE DISCIPLES THAT THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH WOULD LIVE IN THOSE WHO HAD FAITH.

John 14:17 NIV the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN US (IF WE ARE BELIEVERS) AND WE (OUR BODIES) ARE CALLED GOD'S TEMPLE.

1 Corinthians 3:16 NIV Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

1 Corinthians 6:17 & 19 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Ephesians 2:22 NIV And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Ephesians 3:16 NIV I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

2 Timothy 1:14 NIV Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

THE HOLY SPIRIT SANCTIFIES US.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

1 Peter 1:2 NIV who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

JOHN THE BAPTIST WAS FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT FROM BIRTH. THIS IS PROOF THAT GOD CAN BOTH CALL AND SAVE CHILDREN WHO DIE YOUNG.

Luke 1:15 & 17 NIV for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

Luke 1:41 NIV When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

TO THOSE WHO HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN THEM GOD GIVES THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED "SONS OF GOD."

Romans 8:14-16 NIV because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

WE ARE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST BY THE HOLY SPIRIT JOHN THE BAPTIST PROPHESIED THAT CHRIST WOULD BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WITH FIRE. THIS WAS FULFILLED ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST.

Matthew 3:11 NIV "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Acts 1:5 NIV For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 11:16 NIV Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Acts 2:4 NIV All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 4:31 NIV After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

THE DISCIPLES WERE COMMANDED TO WATER BAPTIZE IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Matthew 28:19 NIV Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT CAUSES OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

WHEN A PERSON ACCEPTS THE CALL OF GOD THEY ARE "BORN AGAIN," AND THE HOLY SPIRIT RESIDES WITH THAT PERSON CONSTANTLY TO GUIDE THEM INTO GODS WILL FOR THEIR LIVES.

THE GIVING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A GIFT FROM GOD.

Acts 2:38 NIV Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD RESIDED IN DAVID IN THE OLD TESTAMENT AND CREATES A PURE HEART IN MAN, AND GUIDES HIM TO A PERSON TO KEEP GODS LAWS.

Psalms 51:10-11 NIV Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Ezekiel 36:27 NIV And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD TEACHES A MAN TO DO THE WILL OF GOD.

Psalms 143:10 NIV Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

THE SPIRIT OF GOD GUIDES A BELIEVER IN WHAT TO PRAY FOR.

Romans 8:26-27 NIV In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Romans 15:19 NIV by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:10-14 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Jude 1:20 NIV But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 6:18 NIV And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS RECEIVED IN DIFFERENT WAYS

THE FATHER IN HEAVEN GIVES THE HOLY SPIRIT TO THEM THAT ASK HIM.

Luke 11:13 NIV If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS RECEIVED BY FAITH.

Galatians 3:2-3 & 5 NIV I would like to learn just one thing from you:
Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?

Galatians 3:14 NIV He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO OBEY GOD.

Acts 5:32 NIV We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN BE INVOKED TO BE RECEIVED IN ANOTHER PERSONS BODY BY PRAYER OR LAYING ON OF HANDS OF A BELIEVER.

Acts 8:15-19 NIV When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

Acts 19:2 NIV and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

Acts 19:6 NIV When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

GOD GIVES HIS HOLY SPIRIT ACCORDING TO HIS WILL.

Hebrews 2:4 NIV God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES REST, PEACE, JOY, LOVE AND FREEDOM THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES ALL BELIEVERS GIFTS.

1 Corinthians 12:4 NIV There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES REST TO PEOPLE.

Isaiah 63:14 NIV like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD CAN CAUSE A PERSON TO BE FILLED WITH JOY AND PEACE.

Acts 13:52 NIV And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17 NIV For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

Romans 15:13 NIV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-6 NIV because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.

Galatians 5:22-23 NIV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

THE LOVE OF GOD COMES INTO US THROUGH THE WORKING OF THE SPIRIT.

Romans 5:5 NIV And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

IT IS THROUGH THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN US THAT WE ARE NOT BOUND BY THE LETTER OF THE LAW, IF WE FOLLOW THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT.

Romans 7:6 NIV But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

2 Corinthians 3:6 NIV He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Romans 8:2 NIV because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:4-6 & 8 NIV in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. PREACHING AND TEACHING IS EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

THE LAW OF THE LORD AND THE WORDS OF HIS PROPHETS WERE GIVEN BY THE SPIRIT.

Zechariah 7:12 NIV They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very angry.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD CAN FILL A PERSON WITH SPIRITUAL POWER TO PREACH.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN COME UPON A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE LISTENING TO PREACHING THAT IS GIVEN BY THE SPIRIT.

Acts 10:44-45 & 47 NIV While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have."

Acts 11:15 NIV "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD GIVES INSTRUCTION IN DOCTRINE.

THE HOLY SPIRIT GUIDES THOSE WHO ARE CALLED BEFORE SECULAR OR RELIGIOUS RULERS FOR MATTERS OF FAITH IN WHAT THEY ARE TO SAY.

Matthew 10:19-20 NIV But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

IT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT CAUSES REVIVAL AND STRENGTHENS AND ENCOURAGES THE CHURCH.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CHOOSES THE OVERSEERS OR PASTORS OF THE TRUE CHURCHES OF CHRIST.

Acts 20:28 NIV Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD REVEALS MYSTERIES AND GIVES PROPHECIES

Daniel 4:9 NIV I said, "Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN SPEAK DIRECTLY WITHIN A PERSON TELLING THEM WHAT TO DO OR NOT DO.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN TRANSPORT PEOPLE IN MIND OR BODY

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD CAN PHYSICALLY MOVE PEOPLE FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER, EITHER ON EARTH, OR FROM EARTH TO HEAVEN, OR FROM HEAVEN BACK TO EARTH.

1 Kings 18:12 NIV I don't know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn't find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the LORD since my youth.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN CAUSE A PERSON TO SEE FAR AWAY OR TO SEE A VISION OF WHAT IS GOING ON FAR AWAY.

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD CAN ENABLE A MAN TO SEE OR KNOW OF EVENTS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE ELSEWHERE ON EARTH.

2 Kings 5:26 NIV But Elisha said to him, "Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you?

GOD DOES MANY OTHER WORKS BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THE LORD DOES HIS WORK THROUGH THE MEANS OF THE SPIRIT.

Zechariah 4:6 NIV So he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.

THE FERTILIZATION OF MARY WAS PERFORMED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Matthew 1:18 NIV This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about:
His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

IT IS THE SPIRIT OF GOD THAT DRIVES OUT DEMONS.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN BE GRIEVED, RESISTED AND LIED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN BE GRIEVED, AND CAUSE THE LORD TO FIGHT AGAINST A PERSON.

A PERSON CAN LIE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT IS INSIDE THEM TEACHING THEM THE TRUTH, BUT THEY CANNOT GET AWAY WITH IT.

Acts 5:3 NIV Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?

NO ONE CAN HIDE FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

ONLY BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN

EVERY SIN THAT MEN CAN DO CAN BE FORGIVEN, EXCEPT FOR BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS REJECTING THE CALL OF GOD WHEN HE GIVES IT TO YOU THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Matthew 12:31-32 NIV And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Mark 3:29 NIV But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

THOSE WHO REJECT THE HOLY SPIRITS CALL ARE IN DANGER OF ETERNAL
DAMNATION, FOR HE MAY NEVER CALL AGAIN. TODAY, THE DAY THE HOLY SPIRIT CALLS IS THE TIME TO RECEIVE CHRIST.

Hebrews 3:7 NIV So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his
voice, do not harden your hearts,

EVERY PERSON WHO HAS EVER BEEN SAVED HAS BEEN CALLED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. I BELIEVE IT WILL BE SHOWN AT THE LAST JUDGMENT THAT GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS CALLED EVERY PERSON WHO HAS EVER LIVED, (TO THE AGE OF UNDERSTANDING) ENTREATING THEM TO REPENT AND BE SAVED. GOD WILL NOT FORCE HIMSELF ON ANYONE WHO REJECTS HIS CALL. FOR HIM TO DO SO WOULD VIOLATE THE FREEDOM OF CHOICE THAT GOD HAS GIVEN TO MANKIND. WHEN GOD CALLS THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT IT STILL UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND WHETHER TO INVESTIGATE THE THINGS OF GOD FURTHER, OR TO FORGET ABOUT GOD. WHEN A PERSON REJECTS THE "LAST CALL" THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL GIVE THEM IN THEIR LIFETIME, THEY CAN NO LONGER BE SAVED AND WILL SPEND ETERNITY IN THE LAKE OF FIRE.

Hebrews 6:4-6 NIV It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away, to be brought back to repentance,

Hebrews 10:29 NIV How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

THE HOLY SPIRIT OPENS THE MINDS OF PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND SPIRITUAL THINGS. THIS IS THE CALL OF GOD TO SALVATION. MOST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD REJECT THE CALL OF GOD WHEN IT COMES, THEY THINK ABOUT IT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN PUSH THE THOUGHTS OF GOD OUT OF THEIR MINDS. THOSE WHO DO THIS ON GOD'S FINAL CALL IN THEIR LIFETIME WILL NEVER COME TO REPENTANCE BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER BE CALLED ON BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AGAIN. THIS IS WHY CHRIST SAID "MANY ARE CALLED, BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN."

Matthew 22:14 KJV For many are called, but few are chosen.

THE LORD SAYS, WOE TO THOSE WHO CARRY OUT PLANS THAT ARE NOT DIRECTED BY HIS SPIRIT.

Isaiah 30:1 NIV "Woe to the obstinate children," declares the LORD, "to those who carry out plans that are not mine, forming an alliance, but not by my Spirit, heaping sin upon sin;

THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL BE POURED OUT IN THE LAST DAYS

THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD WILL BE POURED OUT HEAVILY IN THE LAST DAYS.

Joel 2:28-29 NIV 'And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CALLS US TODAY

THE HOLY SPIRIT ASKS ALL WHO ARE THIRSTING FOR SALVATION AND SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE TO COME AND RECEIVE IT.

Revelation 22:17 NIV The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
