I Recently read a book called "Christ and Antichrist" distributed by Voice of Elijah ministries. You can obtain this book free from this link: Free Book "The Antichrist. The most interesting thing to me in the book was this: that all of the early church fathers (those who were taught directly by the disciples or were taught by someone directly taught by a disciple) were unanimous in their assertion that the tribulation would only last for 3 1/2 years. (You can read the works of these men Polycarp, Ignatius, Irenaeus and Hippolytus by clicking on the "Early Christian Writings" link above.) Think about it; if true this would mean that there is no difference between the pre-trib and mid-trib rapture theories. Both would be in agreement. The saints would be raptured before the tribulation begins, but it would be 3 1/2 years before the physical return of Christ. Could it be that us prophecy students have been fighting and arguing over nothing for the last 100 years? Have we been saying the same thing but in different ways? I'm not saying that the 3 1/2 year tribulation period is absolutely true, but it does make a lot of sense. One of the early writers said that Satan would get only the same amount of time to present his false messiah as God the Father used to present the true Messiah Jesus Christ. Why should Satan get to have Antichrist reign for seven years when Jesus turned the whole world upside down with half that amount of time? Does that make sense to you? They (the early church writers) say that God is going to give Satan equal time but not more time than what Jesus had. (sound familiar? Kind of like what our politicians here require on television time) Oh there are some arguments that come to mind. What about the seven year pact? The early writers say that regardless of that, the tribulation does not begin until the abomination of desolation occurs. They were unanimous on that point also, quoting Jesus, Daniel and Paul. So, it would make no difference if Satan made a 100 year pact with Israel, the beginning of that peace accord does not signal the start of the tribulation period, the breaking of it and committing the Abomination of Desolation does.
Another problem is the two 3 1/2 year periods of time mentioned in Revelation, 1260 days for the Two Witnesses to minister and 42 months for the Antichrist to rule. (each calculates to 3 1/2 years) We (prophecy students) have placed these two time periods back to back making a total of seven years. Some of the early church fathers believed that they occurred simultaneously. In other words they were both happening at the same time for the same period of time. Antichrist will come to power and be causing havoc in the world, and the Two Witnesses will preach against both him and his false prophet during the same time period. Hippolytus believed that the Two Witnesses would preach for 3 1/2 years PRIOR to the Antichrist coming to power. But, he still believed in a 3 1/2 year tribulation period. The ministry of the Two witnesses in advance of the tribulation period was to give the world a warning that Antichrist and tribulation were coming. There is still room for dissention and discussion obviously. One could still be pre-trib, pre-wrath or post trib, but the good thing is if this scenario is true now we are only dealing with a 3 1/2 year difference between all three views. Since Jesus said that no one would know the day or the hour anyway, that's really not much to argue about. Perhaps if we could stop arguing amongst ourselves we would have time to win a few more souls to the kingdom. In my view, if a 3 1/2 year tribulation were correct, then it would go like this: After the Two Witnesses are killed by Antichrist, they would go up after 3 1/2 days together with the saints in the rapture. Then God would pour out his wrath on the world for one year while the saints celebrate the Marriage Supper of the lamb in heaven, (to fulfil Deut 24:5) followed by the return of Jesus Christ with his Church to destroy the armies of the world at Armageddon. I am not promoting this position YET. I am watching and studying to see what God reveals next, but always keeping open minded so as not to miss out on understanding what is going to happen before it occurs. If a 3 1/2 year trib were correct a chart of my my view would be this:
Abom
Rapture Wrath Return
of Christ
V---------3 1/2 years-------^--------1 year--------ROC
Trib starts
Not many of you will probably agree with this and that's ok. I'm still pre-wrath but this scenario puts a little different spin on it, but I'm still searching the scriptures and watching to find out the details. I do know one thing and that is that the majority is usually wrong. Of all of the theories that are out there now, probably none are correct, including this one. That is so because God is in the process of revealing his program to his servants in the end times, but he has not finished yet. So keep an open mind on this one, it may yet prove to have some merit. If not, keep an open mind anyway, God will reveal what he is going to do before he does it to those who are watching. (Isa 42:9 NKJV) Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them." (Isa 48:6-7 NKJV) "You have heard; See all this. And will you not declare it? I have made you hear new things from this time, Even hidden things, and you did not know them. They are created now and not from the beginning; And before this day you have not heard them... |
